Default Decisions decisions

Finally ready to get the tins off and painted, the plan was to go black, with candy red flames. Then yesterday a buddy offers togive me some purple/green harlequin that he had left over from a custom vette he did a few weeks back. So we spray out a couple of test panels, black, witha harlequin ghost flame, Must say, it looked pretty good,so now im torn between what I thought I wanted, and something that looks completely different. Im pulling the tins off next weekend, so I have plenty of time to make up my mind. Gonna be a tough choice.

I personally think the red would look better, but I've never really been a fan of the harlequin paint. For some reason, it just doesn't do anything for me. To each his own, though. I'd like to see the test panels you sprayed. Can you get some pictures up? Might change my opinion on the harlequin.

Might change my opinion on the harlequin.
I would like to see them too, for the same reason.
Any thoughts of putting the flames over the silver already on the bike?
Might save some money if they don't have to redo the tins from scratch.

i think on the standard the green/purple will go much nicer and would look more like a hot rod in my opinion. i also think it goes good with the red spark plug wires and the natural engine. do you have pics of the test sprays

OK, that's what I would have reffered to as more "traditional" flame style.
I didn't know they had a fancy name for it.
I don't see that as being all that bad, I kind of like them.
But I would like to see some example of the paint your buddy has and what it would be put on, the factory silver or something else.

Thanks for the opinions. Mojojones, thanks for putting up that pic of the green/purple harlequin. Though the ghost flame we did has a different effect, you can still get a general idea of what the color looks like We sprayed out a test on an old fender at the shop. Never took any pics, and its now back in the scrap pile from which it came. I didnt even consider spraying the flames over the existing color. When I bought the bike they didnt have an EFI model in black as I wanted, so I took the silver, with the intention of eventually painting it black. As far as the cost to paint it, absolutely nothing but time. I have been in the auto refinish business for over 30 years, and I work for a paint manufacturer, so the materials are free. I'll be spraying itat my buddys, who is also one of my customers shop. Ive painted many cars. But this is my first try at flames. Im sure I'll be burning up some fine line tape til I getthe designright. I will definately post pics when its all done and back together. BTW my wife has convinced me to stick with the candy red flames.
