Take a look at any current softail model gas tank. They are vented through the front underneath the tank console.

Thats a positive pressure vapor line connected to a stop "one way" valve...thats not a vent (to PSIA) ...but go with what you know...

To make it simple, carb'd models that use a vented petcock DO NOT need to use a vented cap. Gas tanks(both carb'd and FI) with vents that equalize atmospheric pressure also DO NOT need a vented cap.

That should clarify any question on the matter.

Um, go back to basics CHIEF. I have 5 bikes in my stable, 3 of them have NON-VENTED gas caps. 2 of which use a vented petcock. The other which is vented from the tank is FI.

Next time you do a check on buying a gas caps, you will notice most mfg's will give you a choice of either vented or non-vented for HD's and custom bikes. If your tank is atmospherically equalized by other means you don't need a vented gas cap..........CHIEF.

Thats your problem. Things have changed in 31 years. Like I said, go back to basics. Before the Alzheimer's takes over. [sm=smiley36.gif]
BTW I never dreamed of owning a POS shovel from AMF, ever.
