Default Fat Boy

I'm looking to buy a harley and at age 54 and a half bad back I need a comfortable ride. I test road a 2002 RK and the ride was nice but looking for something with a quicker response in the turns and also on the throttle. Working down from a RK, which model's offers that kind of comfort yet quick response in handeling and some power to pull thru the turns. (like a sport bike) thanks pat

Be aware that all stock HD's are underpowered though many restrictions. Its very easy and not too expensive to get their "zip" up into a respectable range. All Twin Cam 88 engines have loads of potential. All TC's have the same power stock from the factory.
Also of note, the stock seats are pretty harsh on alot of the bikes, an aftermarket seat will cure that problem and help your back out.

As far as quick turning goes, the RK and all the touring bikes have a steeper rake(26 degrees on average) and will turn in a bit quicker than the softail(32 degrees on average) line. Both bike lines though can be made to handle well and both do have good turn in habits.

That being said both bikes can be made to be very comfortable through aftermarket parts. But the touring line of bikes is better suited for long jaunts initially, hauling stuff and 2up riding. If your going solo and dont do as much mule packing the softail is a nice ride, and IMO has much better lines. The softail bike can be converted into a very nice touring bike though. I have seen a house packed onto a softail literally.
As for suspension, all HD bikes IMO lack quality shocks and fork spring setups. Again aftermarket parts will improve the ride for your back.

Sport bike and Harley don't go together. Own a sport bike and you'll soon find out that Harley doesn't understand turning at all.
