I have attached the Harley maintenance table for you. Go to the Softail section and start checking off the items as you have time and you'll be ready for your riding season when it comes.

Now that there made me laugh out loud, and the wife wondered what was wrong with me.... Mr. H, hats off.

You didn't mention previous or even up to date maintenance. However ever couple years, it's a good idea on car and bikes to remove the brake fluid down in the masters and refill with DOT 3 or 4. (Not to low) Then vacuum them at the caliper refilling the master a couple times. (Cover loose)

The system is a totaly sealed system and has the level button on the cover but opening the cover leaves a tad of moist air on top.

That should never be bad enough to actually have air in the line that's not absorbed by the DOT 3.

The air is on the top side of the cover bellow gasket. Before to collapse bellow when done.

As pads wear, pistons stay out, so fluid level does need to be monitored regularly. Shine a light on cover button. It will look clear if fluid is too low.

Don't overtighten cover.

Yes that is important aside from the salt corrosion aspect of it, as it piles up in unexpected places and can surprise you in corners.
