Older bikes have a 3/4" axle, newer bikes have a 1"axle.

Don't the newest bikes (07's and up) use a 25mm axle? Or didI misread that someplace?

Not being a smart a$$, I knew that 25.4mm is an inch. I was under the impressoin that they "may" have reduced the size slightly from 1" to25mm. Why they would do it is a mystery to me.

According to my Softail parts manual the front axle is listed in the rear as a new for 07 part and carries an 07 suffix. But the rear axle has a suffix of 89, and if I understand the numbering procedures used by HD that 89 meansthat this same part was first used in 1989. Whether it has been in constant use is something I can't address, but it is an older part number so it has been around a while.

I have read multiple posts here, where people state the axle's are now metric on the 07's and up. I have not seen the exact size posted, though.

I do not think that the 2007's and up are different. If you look at the Parts and Accessories Catalog you will see that the wheels that are for sale go back to 2000 if I am not mistaken. That would mean that the axles would have to all be the same.

When I put the 2007 Street Glide Wheels on my '05 EG Classic I checked with the local dealer and was told that there was no difference.

Well, they can be different. When I read the words "softail" and "different," I immediately assumed we were talking about the 200mm wheels, my mistake.

To clarify, what I have read in the past is the '06 200mm wheel is 3/4", and the 07's and up are metric.

the metric would explain the flat 25 instead of the 25.4 which as stated previously is an inch and i've heard the same about the 07's being metric as well
