I guess I'm going to have to break down and get the parts manual. I've got the service manual but it doesn't give the sizes of everything. I'm getting tired of waiting to see if HD is going to make wheels for my 06 standard. They only make a couple of $1200 wheels that fit everything else is front wheel only. They have some 17 inch wheels for the Deuce but I think they have a different axle size. Anybody know the rear axle size of an 06 Deuce? I'd buy some HD wheels but unless I know I can buy a matching rear wheel I'm not going to do it.
Bought a set of wheels for the wifes Deluxe yesterday. They had them on sale as obsolete parts. Got front and rear both, 10 Spoke chrome, for 75% off. Total out the door....635.00 What a great deal. These were 1200.00 per wheel.
Tech says they should fit as they are, but if not, simply have the bearings removed and new ones of the correct size pressed in.
I'm going to try and help here, but bear with me, I know the differences, but I'm not the best at explaining things. What I'm thinking, doesn't always make it to my finger tips.
The 99 and earlier wheels have tapered bearings, along with single piston calipers. The 00 and later wheels have sealed bearings, along with multi-piston calipers.
Now to the 00 and later wheels. The wheels with the 25 mm axle will fit the earlier (00 and up)3/4" axle with a wheel specific application kit, but the 3/4" wheel will not fit the 25 mm axle. The bearings are interchangeable, but the problem is with the hole in the hub (where the inner spacer fits). The holein the hub (on a25 mm wheel), is much larger, to accomadate the larger inner spacer and 25 mm axle. Harley makes a spacer to fit the larger hub, and use a 3/4" axle, along with 3/4" bearings. The hole (in the hub)on the earlier 3/4"wheel, is much smaller, and will only accomodate the inner spacer for the 3/4" axle. Theinner spacer for the 25 mm axle will not fit the smaller 3/4" hub.
