2019 Heritage 114. On some start ups motor cranks and stalls a little then fires up. I have to reset the clock. I figured it was battery and installed new one. I still have same problem on some start ups
This never happened before a few months ago.
Anyone else have this happen to them?
Sounds a of the battery vintage is dripping too reseting the clock. I would check to make sure the ACR's are functioning properly.. If not, it will crank very slow at first drawing a ton of current.
I have had this exact issue on my 2011 Fatboy Lo since I bought it used 3 years ago. It's been driving me insane. So far i've put a fresh high CCA battery in. Replaced all battery cables, cleaned connections, added dielectric grease where needed. Checked all electrical connections, whether related to starting or not. Handlebar controls, all grounds, checked all connectors, etc etc etc etc. Went over the entire bike from tip to tail - everything checks out and is in perfect condition.
My bike doesn't have ACR, since it's the 96ci. I've got an Andrews cam, straight exhaust, and air cleaner with an FP3 tuner. Once it's up and running it runs great!
It started off only happening once in a while, now it's every single time I go to start the bike. Hit the button, hesitate for a sec, dash resets, then it fires right up.
I did throw a new CPK sensor in, since it was cheap, easy, and I saw it mentioned in another thread. Made no difference to the starting issue.
If you find a solution, definitely share it. And I'll do the same. I plan on taking it in this winter to get checked out.

What cam and any starter issues in the past?

Andrews 57H. It was in the bike when I got it, and all the work previous to me owning it was done by a very reputable local shop.
I've never had any other starting issues in the past. I plan on doing a compression test soon to see where it's at while starting.
It sounds and feels like the starter is having difficulty pushing through the compression stroke on startup. But why that's happening, I have no clue. You'd think higher lift on the cam or more overlap would LOWER the compression on start, not increase it?
