2008 harley fatboy
How do you check the cam tensioners on a 2008 harley softail using a dental mirror? I am trying to find a video on it but I just cant find one. All I can find is the older twin cam tenioners

How many miles you have on the engine? Are there any noises or issues that make you suspect a cam tensioner problem?
I ask those questions, because your 2008 came with the updated hydraulic cam tensioners and roller chains. They were much better than the older style spring cam tensioners with silent, link chains. Many have gone 100K miles without replacement.
IMHO,
If I was inside the cam chest for anything at high mileage and/or a noise/issue was making the tensioners suspect, I'd just replace them..
If you just pulled the cam cover off for an inspection, I would judge them both by the wear on the outside cam tensioner.
If it is really worn, then just pull the cam plate and replace them both. If the front one is in good shape, I'd close th cam chest and ride on...
If there is any doubt about their condition, since you already have the cam cover off, pull the cam plate and just replace them both for peace of mind.
