08fxstb,
I imagine the Forcewinder sticks out about as far as the Wimmer does. I'm not 100% sure, though. I'm 5'6" also, and when my Deuce has the stock style air cleaner, my leg would rest against it. When I put the Wimmer on, my leg never touched it. It felt so much better not having my leg resting against the air cleaner. So if the Forcewinder sticks out as far as the Wimmer, you should have no problems at all. I should have the Wimmer on my Softail Custom by the end of the week. I'll let you know if there's any difference in the way it fits compared to the Deuce.
As far as how the open filters handle the heavy rain, they don't handle it well at all. If you go with an open style filter, you pretty much HAVE to get a rain cover of some sort for it. I've been caught in the rain with and without the rain cover on my filter. Without it, the bike ran like absolute $#!+. When I had the rain cover on the filter, it ran fine. You can ride with the rain cover on all the time if you want, and performance isn't effected at all. So if you run an open style filter, definitely get something to cover it up in case you get caught in some rain.
Hey thanks Live2Ride. That would be great. Do u know what rain covers are made od by any chance? When I get back from Iraq I want to have all the parts I need. Thats the only reason I ask so many questions.
08fsxtb:
if you look in the harley catalog under the chrome air cleaner "inserts" , they make one that says harley davidson on it, take your air cleaner off (yes they are ugly) and put just the insert on the K&N air filter itself (the center bolt hold it in place), what you end up with is an open air cleaner, with a cool chrome cover. Here is one example, cost $ 15, there are others. These are just the inserts, if you could figure out how to get the insert that is just a ring to stay put, it has a space in between, no place/bolt hole to hold it on. Anyway, get the backplate for stage 1, filter element round k&n and an insert.
i put on a screamin eagle heavy breather on my 08 delux, if you look in hd parts screamin eagle you'll see them, looks sweet on the deluxe. i also have rinehart slipon ons, power commander. i took the heavy breather off my 01 lowrider carb, when i traded it. bolted right on to my 08 efi with no adapters needed, also came with a rainsock

The cover comes with a conversion plate. It bolts up using the original center bolt then you use the allen head screws (that comes in the kit) to put the cover on. Really simple.

Thanks I think I will go with a similar setup I just don't know what cover I want to get. I guess I still have some time to decide. ; )
