hi its time for a new back tire on my fxst ,i dont want to go with the dunlop because only got about 8000 on it ... but i cant find the same size in any other tire 200-55-17 can anyone help me with this ??? thanks for your time ....ozzy
Only Dunlop makes the 200/55r17 but you alot more selection (Avon / Bridgestone / Maxxis / Metzeler / Michlin / Pirelli)if you go with the 200/50r17 http://www.bikebandit.com/nav/tires?...51&all=649
Just as wide but will lower the back of your bike about 1/2 inch
Yes, its what Metzler calls it a "stage 1" upgrade in that it will fit the stock rim and the bike with NO modifications needed. Their matching 880 model front tire in 90/90R21"fits the other end of your bike without modifications.
Did you put the 210 Metzler on your bike? I was looking into that myself, my only concern was that the tire wouldcontact the belt guard. There is no need to mess with that to put the wider tire on there? It will lower the bike a bit in the backand I my bike I would have to go with the 140 in the front and I believe it is a bit taller the than the factory Fatboy DL. Which could give the bike a little meaner look. LOL.
corey01,
Not yet, my tires still have a lot of good mileage in them. But I do intend to get a set ofthem when it comes time for to replacements.
As far as the fit goes, Metzler has a small catalog that has all the tires for all the years and breaks them down into "stages". They call the 210/50ZR17 a stage 1 upgrade and in their book a stage 1 means that no modifications are needed for it to fit the bike as it stands.
There have already been a couple of guys around here that have put them on without any issues.
I don't believe that it will lower the rear very much if any becasue the tire is larger 210mm vs. 200mm so the lower aspect ratio 50 vs. 55 balances out. I think I may have accidentally tossed out my copy of the catalog so I can't tell you what the right "stage 1" size would be for a Fatboy. I wouldn't bother trying to look it up on their web site, its way out of date. But if you visit a couple of the indy dealers around your area I'm sure you should be able to find a copy of their "American V-Twin" tire guide.
Thank you. I figured I would go that route when it was time to change shoes. I will probably get wheels before that happens. The rear wheel will stay the same but I might change the front to an 18" with 140 rubber.
