Default STRANGE NOISE

Friend of mine has a 03 Softail Classic. Today about a mile from hom it developed a noise which he said sounded like it was coming from the primary. He said it was like a hissing sound or better yet like someone pouring sand into something. Any ideas

Turns out that the adjuster shoe was broken right in half. It had pulled apart a half inch. Wonder what caused that.
