I now own a 2008 flstc and i wanted to make it a little bit louder. My dealer informed me that i could put screaming eagle exhaust mufflers on it with out having to re-map it, and with outadding a race tuner is that true?I have read where people have put rush mufflers on with out having to change anything.... could this be tue.. please help I am a new owner so i am lost....help me brothers............
I put Rush slip ons 1 1/2" baffles because I was also looking for just a little louder. I am happy with the sound. I did do an air cleaner and power commander as well, but I don't think it is required.
I did the Rush 1.75 and then a few weeks later went with the Ness A/C and a Tmax. For the few weeks with just the mufflers it was fine, but the plugs were on the edge of very lean.
According to Rush you can run their 2.0 and smalled slip-ons without making fuel modifications. If you also change to a high flow filter you need to modify the fuel map with one of the many systems out there.
i had this problem with my 07 PLEASE dont waist your time and money with the new SE pipes they are rubbish bought them myself 2 weeks later i took them of again. hardly any louder than stock. if you want a good rumble but not too loud go with Rush gret sound and you can change baffles after fitting.
Redfish,
Having ordered the pipes and paid for them BEFORE joining this forum, (my bad), I am having the Screaming Eagle Slip-ons with a Stage 1 Air Filter installed next week. Harley Davidson has a factory download for the computer on the bike that has to be done to handle the increased air flow. (These new bikes run way to lean anyway in order to meet emission standards, so if you in increse the air, you gotta increase the fuel). If they ain't loud enough, I'm going with the Rinehart slip-ons/Power Commander, because I like the shorty-dual look of these pipes on the FXSTC .
If you go with any other pipes other than the SE's, you are going to needan after market tuner (Power Commander is most popular). The after market tuners are way more aggresive in their timing and fuel delivery schedules than what is available from the factory.Power Commander offers "pre-mapped" downloads for some of the more standard exhaust pipescombinations, with the Screaming Eagle Stage One Air Filter as the common denominator. Things get a bit dicey if you make modifications to your bike beyond those listed on the Power Commander site. If you plan to make modifications to your bike that requires other than Power Commander standard programming, make sure have this workdone with someone who can "dyno" the bike and accurately measure timing, temperatures, etc.The big concern is the fact that since these bikes run on the lean side anyway, you have gotta make sure you're not running them too lean.
Note To Self.....Check with dealer before installing anything other than Screaming Eagle because of warranty conflict issues. My dealership says that as long they do the work on the bike, regardless of pipe selection or Powewr Commander configuration, they will cover the warranty.
I asked them "What if I move to another area while the bike is still under warranty?"
Their answer was, "How soon will you be moving?"
I had the se slip ons on my 07 heritage and didnt like them. They were way to quiet .My friend who rode with me had a 650 yamaha louder then me . There was nothing else done to it and the mufflers had black soot inside. I went with the v&h true dual stage one and sert. and am much happier with the sound. The total cost with 3 hrs labor was $1279

The SE slip-on is a fine muffler. It doesn't get louder until you open the throttle. Unfortunately, the EPA mandated a Dba level for ALL factory mufflers at certain RPM's. The new SE's are rated at 80Dba at idle just like the stock mufflers. The big difference is they really growel and actually sound pretty good in the upper RPM band of the engine. That also includes the cruising band of RPM. I had them on my '07 Heritage and thought they were just fine.
