Awesome. I was wondering this exact same thing the last couple of days. I don't have a new cover yet, but am thinking about getting one. I love this forum.

When I replaced mine, I had a friend sit on the bike and hold it slightly leaning to the right to prevent any oil leaking out.

You can just put a 2*4 under the side stand and that will hold it upright enough to not leak any primary fluid.

All good advice posted above. Don't crank down too hard on those torx screws - I'm guessing the directions have a torque value listed. I have the same derby cover, but I can't recall what the direction said.

Oh, Right, Yup, I remember this freakin' nightmare, ...........think I posted the complete pain in the as$ it was too.

I stripped two of those bolts, had to then drill them out, and messed up the sides of the whole cover of both of them. (Word of advice, a drill is not a good idea to use removing the bolts on this mod )

Then as I took the cover off; all the stupid liquid puked out 'cuz I did it leaning on the stupid stand. Then I replaced it with this scull cover from some place that didn't provide a gasket, so I naturally tried using the rubber original;...... then for the rest of the day I noticed liquid under the bike, "Then took it into a shop and he basically called me an idiot and told me I needed a gasket and as I didn't have one he'd have to use a thick / liquidy / pasty / gooey looking sealant to seal it with.

Damn good thing that sealant worked. Man, I thought it was like;... undo 6/8 screws and then whack on new one. Man, was I wrong.

Good luck with the mod, and the above advice in right on the nail, these guys have definitely done that mod before.

To this point (bike standing still), it went fine. If it wasn't for all of the advice, I'd be swearing and probably be calling a flat-bed service right now. Looks awesome. Didn't overtighten and used a new gasket that the Harley parts guy gave me ("You'll need this").

I took the easy way out. Bought a new cover on ebay. When I had my 1000 mi. service done I told the shop to switch the derby cover. Since they have to pull the cover anyway to service the primary, there was no extra charge.
