Default RE: GPS for Heritage Softtail

I have had several. There are only about 3 that are water resistant (rain). Garmin makes all 3. There are only 2 that run on battery. Here is the list

Garmin 2620 about $995.00 - Pro = All maps are installed down to the street level. Nice size display, and touch screen. Con = No battery. You will have to hard wire it in. You will need to purchase a RAM mount to mount it.

Garmin Legend C about $295 Pro = Runs on 2 AA. Handheld. RAM makes a small mount for 1" bars. Con = Limited map space. Small screen size. You have to upload maps from computer as needed. Forget cross country runs with this one. It is made for only 300 mile rides. Street level; maps are not included. US will cost about $100 for the software.

Garmin QUEST About $400 on the web. Pro = 20 hr battery life (lithium rechargeable) or 12 volt. RAM makes a great mount with wireing. Screen size is fine. Enough space to load maps from Coast to Coast down to street level. Con = Must load maps from PC. Must purchase Street level maps $100 for the US.

(I have the Quest and like it very much. If the Quest 2 was out at the time I purchased mine, I would have purchased it. I have used mine for 2 years and wouldn't ride without it)

Garmin Quest 2 About $600 Same as above but ALL MAPS ARE PRELOADED. SWEET !!!

All the above ar water resistant. I haven't found any others that are recominded for Motorcycles. The Quest is the one Harley is selling. Look on the web for the best deal.

I hope this helps. Doc

PS All the above can be used in the car as well.... The 2620, Quest and Quest 2 all talk to you when pluged into your lighter plug in the cage......
