Thanks folks, you guys rock as usual!
Clammy thanks for posting your pics, mine will look very similar to your early NT after I install the mini apes.
I have the same sissy bar and pad.
Just bought Texas Fat Boys HD mini's, I'll get the remaining parts in a couple weeks.
At least my "winter mods" have begun!

No problemo! Have fun with the install. If it's your first time, take your time and get a shop manual.

Cheers!

I did the same thing with my standard and am very happy with them. Not too low and not too high, no "kiting".

I didn't know this when I changed my Fat Boy bars last winter and I put on the Harley Mini apes.
But they still wasn't far enough back for me, to lean back.
I only needed two more inches back to be perfect. Now here's the warning.

Warning: HD Mini Apes are 1 1/4" bars all the way around and you will need 1 1/4" risers.
There isn't much choices with the 1 1/4" risers.
Pick out some bars that are turned down to 1" centers and you can use a wide varity of pull back risers to get them to fit you personally.

HD mini apes are 1" bars not 1 1/4 at least that's what i just ordered for my nightster and they are factory mini apes. I got them for 37$ at http://bikerbobsstore.com/

Hello all, I am new to the forum I have already gotten a lot out of it lit reading your conversation about mini ape on the night train my machine is at the shop as we speak having the hd fat mini apes installed along with a 3 and a half inch fat risers I have found that there is a lot more pictures of the night train with the mini apes out there on the internet than I thought I should have my bike back in a few days when I get back I will give you my opinions and post pictures the new 3 in a half inch that risers are also supposed to help hide the wiring that comes up through the middle of the upper triple tree I had originally put street slammers on it and although I love that look it was time to get the hands up in the air just a bit we will see how it turns out.

How tall are you? I have an 03 NT, with 16" apes....
Been looking at the cheap Road 6 bars...
Going 10-12 inches...

Are the wrist angles good on those bars..

I mean, I feel like a total badass on mine right now...
But I am not... Lol... And not the most comfortable set up I've ever had...
I know when I take my badlander

I know when I take my badlander off, and put on a lil bit taller seat, it is better..
I'd hate to change my bars, to realize it really is just the seat...
Decisions decisions?!!!

I fitted harley chubby miniapes to my Train a couple of years ago, you'll find that the part of the bars you hang onto are an 1" or 2 longer than the standard ones fitted to the softail custom for some reason, personally i would have preferred the 1" or 2 on the height but they are comfortable if expensive.
