Hey guys i need some advice. Right now im running Rinehart exhaust flush cut with black tips. Ive had them for a little over a year and im looking to go with some other pipes. The rineharts are just not loud enough for me. I narrowed it down to Vance and Hines Big Shots Staggered or Samson Big Guns 2 Ripsaws. I love the sound of both, but im having a hard time deciding which to go with. Heres acouple pics of my bike. I think either pipe will look great on the bike.
Did you try taking the baffles out of the Rinehart's? If you're going with new pipes I'm voting for the Samson's for two reasons. 1. I had those exact same pipes on my old ride and they were awesome. A very deep and loud tone and they look mean as hell. 2. The Samson's will change the look of your bike more than the BSS's coming from the Rineharts.
I had some samson rip saws and loved them. The only bad thing about them was after a few thousand miles the heat shields would break as the are welded to the pipe itself and a hole in the system!! What bummer.. So, this time i went with vance and hines short shots staggered. So far so good, but the heat shields are not welded, they use hose clamps. Which I think is much better because if it breaks all you need is a hose clamp!! Not to mention they are LOUD!!
Hey Bonecrusher. Do you remember if your big gun 2 ripsaws came with heat shields? And did you have any problems with them? Ive just heard some stories about the big gun 2s having welds breaking and the chrome pitting. But then again i hear some people have never had any problems with them. I guess every brand could have flaws. Just seems like alot of people on the board talk negative towards samson pipes. I do think they would look bad a$$ on my softail though.
I bought mine in '04 and they were BG II's then, I think they make them all BG III's now.
harley1969, I did in fact have an issue with mine but it was due to a faulty install on my part. My first set of Samson's were banging off my right front footpeg due to the rubber mounted engine and eventually yes the pipe did crack right at the weld but it was due to it hitting my footpeg when I revved the engine. Here's the cool part, I Called Samson-told them what happened and they sent me a brand new set of pipes to my door for free. After putting the new pipes on and making sure they fit properly I had zero problems, no pitting, no blueing, etc.
I agree with you that alot of people slam Samson and their customer service but my experience with them was top notch. A lot of my friends run Samson pipes and they have no problems at all. Like you said any brand will have problems here and there but in my opinion it's what that company does to make it right that's important to me and despite all that I heard about Samson they stepped up to the plate when I needed them too.
I'd still be running Samson's on my Deuce but I wanted a different look and sound since I had the Samson's for three years on my last ride. They are though IMHO some of the nastiest cool looking pipes on the market.
I have almost 5,000 miles on my Samson II, Rip Saws. The fit and finish are excellent. I have had no problems with any welds breaking. Withthese pipes and my 103" engine, the exhaust level is extremely loud. The previous owner had them installed whenthe bikewas new. He also had power cones installed at the head end.
They come without baffles and Samson doesn't make a baffle that will fit. I am on my 2nd set of after market universal baffles, that I wrapped some fiberglass around. This last set of cheap baffles knocked just enough of the sound level down for my taste.
Tom
Yeah i say big guns 2 because i found a dealer that has a couple more sets left of the ripsaws in big guns 2. Yeah they make all big guns 3 now but they have non removable baffles in them. I prefer the big guns 2 with no baffles. I already have the rineharts with baffles in them and they are not loud enough. Ive heard the big guns 2 ground pounders and ripsaws and i love the loud sound it puts out.
