Default Heritage Classic comment from a sportster guy

Hi,

I've never road a softail so keep that in mind....

Anyways, I was at one of the local dealers this weekend checking out bikes. I eventually want to get something bigger with bags on it. So I figured I'd check a few out, sit on them etc. I ended up at a Road King and a Heritage Classic parked nearby. So I sat on both of them to see how they fit me.

What the hell is up with the Heritage?

I sat on that bike and felt like I was part of the bike. It was ultra-comfortable. The RK in comparison was like my Sporty. I felt like I was sitting up on a director's chair. You know, not necessarily part of the bike in as much as just sitting on it. That surprised me. I figured the RK would be a lot more comfortable. Maybe it would after 1000 miles -- but on initial sitting the Heritage felt great. With the Heritage I felt like I was one with the bike -- part of the machine. Is this a softail trait by design of the chassis/suspension or only a Heritage thing?

I had gone in looking primarily at RK's. Now the Heritage has popped up on my radar. The dealer told me to come back and schedule some test rides on their test bikes so I could feel the ride difference between the two. I think I will have to do that sometime soon.

Heritage owners chime in please.......

I believe that is the trait of all the Softails.
I don't really know why, but it is.

I tell you, it put the Heritage on my radar. I will have to check out other softails. I've ridden Dynas before and of course Sporsters and neither of them felt like this. The HSC truly made me feel like I was not just "on" the bike -- but a part of it. And that is something I have been kind of looking for.

Don't just get locked into the Heritage you can put detachable bags and windshields on any model.
It might be cheaper to go with a Heritage if you like the looks of it.

You can even put the detachable harware on the Heritage bags and sissy bar and have a Bar hopper look in a couple of minutes.

Here's mine with some Leather Pro saddle bags anda Boss Bag trunk:

I went with the mid size bags, but you can buy some huge ones if you want.

I dont own a heritage or any soft tail for that matter. but if you go back a couple of pages, you will see my post kinda similar to this one. I test rode a heritage a week ago. i have been hooked ever since. curently own an 07 sporty. Getting ready to take the big lost and move up to a heritage. What you said was excactly the truth. Ridding a heritage is like being one with the bike as oppose to say my sporty which feels like Im ridding on top of the bike. I actually test rode a roadking this past weekend. Its a fine ride. Mighty fine ride at that. But it still has a rubber mounted motor. Just saying, the counter balanced motors on the softails just feel so much better to me in my opinion. But then again, I havent own either one, I have only test rode them. Softail owners and Road king owners will be able to give you a better reply. But nevetheless, still wanted to chime in on this being that I wrote a similar post. By the way, I love the fatboy as well. Just that damn stock seat is way too wide for me. Heritage fits me like a glove. Not a fan of spoke wheels. But thats a bullet Im willing to bite in exchange for the bags and windshield.

First choice was a road king but then I sat on the soft tail and immediately felt the difference. For me I think it may have merely the height difference. The RK was about an inch or so higher.
The ST fit me perfect. I could've had the RK lower but I didn't want to be bothered with that.

I've read that the ST aftermarket seats are even more comfortable?

Exactly my reason for going with a Softail...

"Softails you sit in" while "RoadKings you sit on"..

It just a matter of choice..

I too owned a Sportster! I upgraded to a 2007 Softail Deluxe, I just like you, felt one with the bike. I also liked the low profile of the Deluxe and it has been a very good choice so far zero problems. It's a very smooth and clean bike to ride. It's just like the Heritage just a bit lower stance. I think you're headed in the right direction. The counter balanced motor is just that smooth no bounce at idle like the rubber mount motors. Good Luck!

I own both 05 RK Classic 08 Heritage. both are great bikes but the short time i have had the heritage has been nothing but smooth.you sit lower and your legs are more forward.very comfortable. the RK does come with cruise conrtol and engine guard standard for about the same price but i think the softail ride wins out.
