I also have the HD detachable. Wind noise is terrible and it will just about suck your face off. I am planning to fabricate some short brackets for the bottom 2 bolts and lean the top back 4 inches or so and see what happens.
I thought about that too...
if it only had a more lean back to it, I think it would be a winner....
I actually thought about making new brackets on my friends laser cutter....
let me know how it comes out....
I have an 07 FXSTC and was looking just like you several weeks ago. If found an almost new, it looks brand new, HD windshield with quick detach clamps, (no docking hardware) for $260.00 and REALLY like it. I can remove it in seconds and it is the perfect height for me. I've NEVER riden with a windshield before but it makes a HUGE differance...that means I'll be able to ride longer as it gets colder...big plus.
I`m really happy with the bike but it would be nice to have a windshield for longer riders. I really like the look of the harley style windshields as opposed to the windvest. The dealer wants about $400 plusfor the HD ones, alittle more than i wanted to spend.
The only other thing that i`d like to change is the big stock seat, i love the look of the solo seat that a few of you have on your bikes.
Any detachable windshild is the best I will be getting one this spring. I have a night train and will only use a windshield on long trips or in the cold weather. I have had many windshields.I have tried sports shields and they look good but I have found that wind blockage is minimal. So I will use a full size windshield. Face it none of them are very pritty so you might as well get one that does the job.
To measure one (this does work) you need to stand your bike up on a jack or center stand. Sit on the bike in your normal riding position and have a friend hold a tape measure about an inch above your headlight extend the tape hightto about the top of your head. The tape should be at about the same angle as your forks. You then take a yard stick or any stright stick and place the edge at the tip of your nose. Lower the yard stick down until it looks level with the tape measure. On my night train that would be 17" On a 6'3" person it would be around 21"
The windshield needs to be measured for you. Not your friend who has a 15" windshield and thinks its great. I have learned this the hard way. You need to see over your windshield and the wind will be directed over your head at the tip of your nose hite. I will be getting a memphis fatshade this winter detaachable I have friends who have them and love them. I hope this made some sense. Good luck
