Damm.

No disrespect but just wasn't the same watching his kid jump. His Ceasar jump is forever burned in my mind just like that Wide World of Sports ski jump thing from the 70's. I too hope they do a retrospect on one of the Sports or Doc channels. I also grew up watching him. RIP Evel.

All in all, he lived about 50 years more than he should have, given the chances he took.
Not to mention crashes, he should have beenthe poster boy for the "agony of defeat" ad's that ABC used to have for the Olympics.

The guy definitely lived on the edge. Out of curiosity, anyone ever meet him and actually talk to him. Wonder if he was a nice guy in person.
I had the chance to talk to him back in 1983 in Medina, OH.
It was at a small motorcycle drag race, and he was there to do wheelies and that kind of stuff. He was using a Triumph Bonneville.
At that time, he was almost broke. He was doing cheap gigs like that, and selling hand made clocks out of his little trailer.

He challenged anybody in the crowd to race him down the 1/4 mile doing a wheelie. Believe it or not, some kid beat him, and Evil had to fork over some cash. I remember him not hiding how pissed off he was for losing the cash..

The race was small and I remember being able to just walk up and talk for quite a while, until he had enough of the small talk...
Man, looking back, what an honor that was. He was probably the most fearless daredevil to ever walk the Earth.

I was a kid in the 70's, and Evel was the only person that was as cool as Elvis for me. I remember his crashes well, but he also made hundreds of jumps successfully I hear! I watched a special on History channel the other night, from 2005. The guy certainly didn't lack for confidence, and modesty seemed a lost art. He almost took credit for curing polio and launching the space program, but he stopped just short of that. But I'm sure that drive helped him become a cultural icon ... Plus the fact he was nuts!!
