Unless you are willing to spend way more than the part is worth for getting it chemically stripped, just take a wire wheel to it and work it over.
POCPCJ is right. Removing the chrome chemically can be expensive. My two cents: Sand blast it off. Now that you are down to bare steel, what do you have in mind to revent rust? Re-Plate, Ceramic coat, Other?
was thinking of painting it leaving the name namvet in the design. Not sure yet but thought id try and see what it looked like.If i dont like it id just throw it away.

not to bust your bubble or anything, but paint will last about 30 seconds on a hot pipe. if you think it looks bad with the chrome peeling, wait till the paint starts peeling.
if you want to do it right, get them ceramic coated.

I tried painting the pipes on my old Ironhead. High temp paint lasted maybe 2 months. It would do better to have them ceramic coated and, if you intend to keep it like that for a few years, it will save you money over having to repaint 3 - 4 times a year.
Grimm is right for normal spray paint. Maybe you are thinking of stuff like this: http://www.cacustomcoatings.com/flam...-coatings.html
I have not tied it butthey claim this stuff can take it..... I would need to see it.
