For those looking to stay warm while riding here is what I've done!
My hands were always COLD!I added HotGrips to my Heritage along with their controler. WOW! What a difference! But . . .
What I have found is that for trips requiring frequent clutching and braking always left my hands a little cool. Nice mind you but a little cool. However for any longer rides like freeway or roads with no lights or frequent stops where your hands stay on the grips I found they not only kept me more than warm they could get down right HOT! Now that is nice! So think about how you ride they may help a little or they may help a LOT!
Next my feet. I didn't do much here but I did find relief. I ride with regular socks and riding boots. Nothing else on the feet. I did however add Chilowee Leather Engine Guard Chaps. I fully expected these to keep my feet drier ( I live just North of Seattle ) by protecting them from road spray, but the unexpected added benifit was keeping the direct cold wind off my feet! Hey! Very nice! Helps a lot too!
Next is my torso. My riding buddies all told me about their Gerbing heated vests and how great the vests are. However everyone of them admitted they'd wished they had purchased the full heated jacket liner. I went straight to the Gerbing heated jacket liner. I also added the controller. Holy cow! What a difference! Were talking serious heat and right now!
Some descriptions of riding conditions.
60 minute commute, 40 degrees, 50mph gusts, rain, and on the freeway. I was sweating when I arrived! ( last weeks storms )
Today to work 27 degrees and clear. snow inspots on the ground and ice on the streets here and there. I was toasty warm however my hands were chilly do to frequent clutching and extremely gentle braking.
On the way home it was 34 degrees but no ice on the roads at all. No rain. I was actually quite comfy including my hands! My neighbor challenged me when I arrived home wondering why I would ride in such cold! I showed him my gear and then thought maybe I'd share my experiences here!
Anyone with questions is welcome to ask away!
I am in no way related to or represent any of the companies listed. I'm just very happy with my gear!
Southerner here and I must say this. YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Wow that is cold riding there. I am going out riding Saturday in 45 to 50ish weather and I am thinking brrrr. Ok now I am thinking I am going out in a heat wave ahaha. I had a friend that road in up state NY and Jersey. He always laughed at us Southerners ahahaa. He would ride with less cloths and laugh while we were bundled up.
Well, I'm trying to be the man! I just love to ride every chance I get! With the proper gear, I may look the part but I'm actully quite toasty! I have yet to figure out the fogging viser on rainy days though. If I can find a way to not have to keep it cracked open on cold wet days I'll be set!
Tonight is going to be well below freezing and the roads are curently wet. Looks like I'll be a caged rider tomorrow. I don't want to ride on ice!
I purchased the Gerbing Classic gauntlet gloves which are sweet. I'm in the process of changing out the bars, so I purchased and installed the Kuryakn Heat Demons. The heat elements slide inside the bar, and wire up to a 4 level temp controller. Also real sweet....
Probably will be getting some Gerbing heated socks next.
I don't like riding below 80 or so .... How do you keep your face and neck warm ? that one seems tough . really rough when it gets down in the 60's.... brrr !! shoot, only about 5 months to go and i can ride again !!!! Winters long in Ohio . The entire state for the most part sucks . ( yawn ) ..
A wind resistant balaclava that HD sells for 24 to 28 bucks will help a lot to keep your face and neck warm. I wear it when its below 58. Works great just the area around your glasses are exposed other than that your fine.

Yup!
Don't get the cheap $9 ones! they do not work as well.
I also were a full face helmet. There is a little rubber seal I can add or remove at will. It basically stops ice cold air from entering from the bottom of my helmet to my face. Very usefull on very cold days. The draw back is lowered air flow and this steaming up the visor is a problem on rainy cold days. At least I can crack the visor a bit and control cold vs visibility. The vents normaly work great for this but if I stop I fog up very quickly.
