get shields, there the best thing they ever came out with, i have vance and hines longshots and if i take the heat shields off, well the pipes are blue. now i did see a bike with vance and hines longshots that were blue for the last foot or so after the heatshields, that was kinda screwy.
The bluing is just oxidization from high temps. Send me an email with your address and I will send you a small sample bottle of some new stuff that will take it right off. Non-toxic and will not damage the chromium plate. Live2Ride is also correct in that http://www.blue-job.com/ will take it off, but the stuff is expensive (about $14 for a small can of powder).
Personally, I don't worry about it much. Just enjoy the ride.
If you are still looking for an answer to your question (I couldn't figure out if you actually got an answer yet..) this is whatI know:
If the pipes you are getting do not have heatshilds, yes, you can use Blue-Job to get the blueing/yellowing off, but it will just come back. Probably pretty quickly too. Every set of pipes I have ever had had 220 degree heat shields and the pipes themselves under the shields always blued.
Blue-Job does work though, and the pipes you are thinking about getting are way-cool. Most of the time I see those pipes on a bike (usually a custom) I have noticed that the owner doesn't worry about the blueing. So, if you are gonna have cool pipesand you want them shiny chrome you are gonna be taking care of them a lot.
I found Blue-Job online for 8.00 and 3.00 shipping. I've also seen it at some dealerships. It is in a powder form and a jar will last you a long time.
If you don't like blue pipes, then NEVER buy a set of chrome pipes that don't come with 220 heat shields that cover the whole pipe from front to back.
If you want a set of FU pipes, save yourself the aggrevation and buy them in ceramic black. Other than that, it's a battle you can't win..
Can someone tell me which sensor I'm seeing here.
It's coming from the front of the cam chest, and can be seen in this pic at 8 o'clock from the oil filter, mounted between the 3rd and4th screws on top, from right to left on the cam cover?
Thanks..
