Default Deluxe Saddlebags ???

Is anyone running with a pair of HD Standard saddlebags on a Deluxe without the bottom brackets? If so are you having any problems?

Thanks,

I mounted a set of deluxe bags on my '07 with Bubbabrake quick release mounting system. On the left side I have the bottom support from Bubba on the right I have not been able to get it to work. The bottom bracket they first sent me is too short (goes from the bottom of the bag to the passenger peg post. They then sent me a short one to mount by the rear mount of the muffler (stock pipes) and it mounts at the wrong angle. So I contacted them again and they are working on it. In the meantime I have been using the right bag withoutlower support and have not had a problem. I think most on the forum would agree that you're ok as long as you do not overload the bag.The bags are nicely made and fit well on the bike without moving pipes andtail light but they are small and not terribly useful (for a whole lot of money) IMO.

I have the '06 Deluxe. I took off those bottom brackets from the day I got the bike. And I have never seen anyone else keep them. Recently I changed my bags to the Heritage ones. Again, I did not bother with the bottom brackets. I carry groceries, not cinderblocks, and have not seen any reason to regret tossing the bottom brackets.

When I had my Deluxe I used the Bare Backs quick release system without any other support brackets. I didn't have any problems and I put a little weight in them sometimes.

the brackets are there for a reason, support. aftter awhile the stress from the bags free standing and hitting bumps in the road will take its toll on the struts or hardwear and will cause a problem. all the weight is now on these two strut bolts which are closer to the top of the bags this is not rocket sience its common sense lets face it HD would not waste a penny on smething that is not nesserary and why would a place like bubba who makes a nice detachable system also waste his time. you will get away with it but for how long month year who knows .i would be checking them often and tighten them to the strut.
