I've got a black and white '08 deluxe. I look at what you've done and think I'd like to do many of the same mods as you have done. I agree 100% with Citoriplus - the Deluxe has to stay nostalgic/retro looking. You have certainly done a tasteful job in maintaining that look with all your mods. Maybe you could put some tunes on the bike? Mp3 player (small, removeable) amplified road rumble speakers built in HD driving light cases? Fatter (somewhat) whitewalls that will still fit your wheels and swingarm? Quite frankly, you have done a beautiful job on that bike. Sometimes a work of art doesn't need more?
Texas fat boy. I like those pipes on your bike. What is the make and the price of those pipes. Also how do you like them. What type of sound loud.....ect, Are there baffles?
First off I would like to thank all that have responded to my post and for the kind words. OK Texas fat boy i like the flying wheel suggestion but do not see how i would do this the flying wheel insert has five screws around the outside edge the air cleaner only one in the middle is there still a way to add this insert if so I will change it out ASAP. on the head lights i intentionally change the head light ring to differ from the passing lamps and i am happy with that look but the nacelle is still my number one mod to consider but there are issues. one is that the risers on the deluxe are about 3 inches taller then the ones this setup will fit i do not wish to change the risers because i will have about three inches of slack in my braided cables which i feel will look bad new ones will cost me about $100 dollars each. I have also heard there are issues with the passing lamps if you do not change the passing lamp bar. This means lifting the tank or removal. On the console i had the ness lower dash power coated black looks better than chrome over white upper dash was considering the joker machine older looking dash may still do it. by the way i have a flamed upper dash joker machine for sale new in box for softail 70.00 including shipping runs about $100 any one interested PM me. they sent me the wrong one and i never got around to sending it back its to late now. any way i may do the nacelle also the upper dase.well that's it so far keep the suggestions coming
nikon, I was looking at your gallery I dig the pinstrips was that hand done, or is one of those pinstip kits? I have been thinking about doing some stripping on my springer classic and have seen a few in person with the winnerscyclegraphics.com kits and they look really good for a kit.
Jr. the pinstripes are hand painted and done right before my eyes. There is a guy here in Danbury CT a 40 year veteran of the craft. his rates are dam fair and the work is great. he sets up every Sunday at a local spot where bikers hang out and does the work on the spot. Give it about an hour to set up and your on your way. Ill bet what i paid is less than the kit your talking about I had five stripes done front and back fender right and left gas tank and lower front fender $150.00 probably a little more now but a great deal. someone asked me about my pipes and the sound. The pipes are Vance & Hines true duels with fishtails with quite baffels. The sound is great as far as i am concerned. they may sound different on an a stock 88 or 96 with my motor being built i am sure what i get will be much different than a stock motor. they are mello when crusing but when you twist it they really come to life
I can usually look at a bike and think of a ton of things I would change, but the look you seem to be going for looks like it has been achieved. I would definately do a nacelle. I would also re-locate the license plate to below the tail light or the swingarm. Then I would do a 6 speed. Anything more would take away from the overall "LOOK" you have achieved.
J I would re-locate the license plate below the tail light but it would kill my pinstripe which it would then cover as far as the swing arm mount plate holder that would really clash with the nostalgic look. i had bought one and then sold it to a forum member deciding it really looked out of place
OK Texas fat boy i like the flying wheel suggestion but do not see how i would do this the flying wheel insert has five screws around the outside edge the air cleaner only one in the middle is there still a way to add this insert if so I will change it out ASAP.
I may be wrong but, the "Flying Wing" air cleaner trim has to fit on the stock football cover which just has the one bolt.
I believe (I don't know for sure) there will be a bracket that connects the two.
I assuming it's like the one in this picture. "Click here"
If it is like this one, it might even fit on your cover.
But my smooth cover has the little indention around the mounting bolt, that works with the other Harley inserts.
