So I put the new black vance and hines short shots on my 2008 night train. Immediatly I noticed a loss in low end torque and I miss it. I have all the components for the round open element filter and am going to put the fuel pack inline with the ECM. Will this gain my sorely missed low end torque back?
On a different note the pipes seemed to improve acceleration in the mid-high range when cruzing.
You probably need a set of torque cones that sit inside your pipes right off the motor. It usually brings back the torque you lost when you went with the opened up pipes.
Do you still have the baffles in? If so you shouldnt have lost that much. I have the Big Radius. I wanted it louder but didint want to take the baffles out because of torque loss. I got the Thunder Monster baffles from Big City Thunder. Closest your gonna get to open pipes without torque loss. I dynoed the bike with the Big Radius with the stock baffles. Torque was around 84. They I dynoed with the Thundermonster baffles. Torque stayed the same it didnt loose any. Also, from what I have read.....stock pipes produce around the same amount of torque.
Standard baffles are in and yes they are loud enough. I like the way they sound. I was surprised when I first started it up. I thought they were to loud but now I am use toit.I like the pipes but I can tell thereis a loss. Not much though but enough to tell on take off. On the other hand it seems the gain is in midrange. I will learn to live with it I was just wondering if the filter and fuel pack would bring it backbut it sounds like it wont.
I just switched from the V&H Big Radius to the Shortshots black and love them - better mid range power and nicer sound. It's hard to change and have something not meet your expectations initially - Hope you find a solution -
I have the chrome ones, I think they sound great. As far as losing power, they were installed on the bike before I picked it up, so I didn't drive the bike with the stock exhaust. With the PClll and the air cleaner it feels fine.
