I want to change the seat on my 05 Night Train to a solo. I love the look of a solo but have not been able to change from the stock HD Badlander seat because of my girl! So the stock seat served me well up until now that is... She won't get on the back anymore cause we are expecting our first child! Yee Har GREAT news! I am extermley happy about the baby but my deviuos little head [sm=guilty.gif] can't stop thinking about how this is the oppportunity to get my solo seat! Does anyone out there have a preference between Le Pera or Corbin?
Just this weekend, I pulled out a lepera seat I had sitting around.. It's a Silhouette Bullet Solo with gel, in stock material.
It was pretty inexpensive. It appears to be fairly decent quality. My one gripe with it is the back of this seat is a bit thick and hits me square in the tailbone. After a full day it's a bit fatiquing.. But somewhat to be expected with a low profile solo seat. The gel helps I think. I have read some folks say these seats break in a bit after some miles, so I'm going to give it a chance. I'm not too thrilled with the rough felt underpadding.. something less abbrasive on my rear fender would be more satisfactory, to me anyway. I do find FEW people who don't like their corbins though. Neither are going to be long riders if you go with a low profile seat so be prepared that it isn't a 500 mile per day seat.
Ya know.. I have to add.. Don't rule out Mustang seats for comfort though. They may not be as slammed to the frame as the low profile corbins and leperas, but your butt will thank you. I've not sat on one but they're supposed to be extremely comfy.
I have had both and no complaints with either. I also had a Danny Gray/Arlen Ness solo that I liked quite well. Its really in what you like. You can't go wrong with either.
I've only had Corbins, and the quality and comfort are unbeatable once broken in. I've heard that the "gel" seats get too hot after parking the bike in the sun, but I've never had one so I can't comment on them from personal experience, though it does make sense.
I have a corbin seat but not a solo. I have a gun fighter/lady with passenger backrest. Quality and fit is great but leaves some to be desired for comfort.
Thanks for the info. The shop said I can try both on my bike before I buy which was pretty good of them I thought. I didn't expect it but it's sure does help!
