Looking at a 2004 Custom Softail Springer and was wondering what I should expect from the ride. Forget the fact it's customized...first I was wondering what the springer felt like stock? Most places won't let you ride em before you spend $15k on em. Here's the one I'm after.
I've rented the Fat Boy (not a bad ride...) and the Road King (just too big for me right now)...I really like the look of a chrome springer front end.
The springer front end is the best tracking and feeling front end of any Harley. My Springers feel more stable than the Ultra...and they look so damn good!
I bought my springer new in 05 & it took about 1000 mi to get broken end but after that its been AMAZING! It handles so well, looks great & has a super tight turning radius which comes in handy, I have ridden all types of bikes & have never been able to "throw one around" like I have with the Springer, ENJOY!
Great looking Springer. Those pipes look a bit loud though. I loved my Springer from the very first ride. And yes, the dealer let me test drive it. It made the deal!
What I have found is a more true feedback to you from the road. You can feel better what the road surface is transmitting to the bike. Not that you get a rough ride, or a tough ride... actually I find the feel of springer light and nimble, but you do get more feedback.... not really sure how to describe it.... I feel like the bike and I are more connected to the road surface...
Does any of this make sense, or am I falling into the sensory deprivation disorder?

No not too loud at all, SE 1s they arent legal but they arent over powering either, they sound tough but not obnoxious
The springer handles great, steady at highway speeds, the best handling H-D in my opinion. I added the Progressive shock, smoothed out the ride quite a bit. Not that it really needed it but it does make a noticeable difference.
Thanks for all your input. As of Friday, I'm the proud owner of an almost brand new 2004 HD Springer. Had 66 miles on it...and its not a rebuild. Way too many upgrades to list...my favorites are the open Primo primary, the Avon rubber, Choopers Inc 44 mag Grips, pegs and tree tops...of course the drag bars and pipes are pretty smooth too! I'll post more pics today.
The ride is amazing...and you do feel the road a bit differently. It's a nice smooth ride...even lowered its nice.
Need a new seat ASAP though...recommedations are welcome. I need a seat that's as nice for me as it is for my woman on the back.
