Anyone have examples (pics) of copper plated parts on your sled? I think Harley use to have copper on older (Vintage) bikes, but would like to see some pics if available.
I saw something on SPEED a few nights ago where a company had used a lot of copper on a bike they built (I think it was a crotch rocket). While it looked good they commented that the copper was very difficult to work with due to its extremely quick oxidation.
Something to keep in mind/research if copper is in your future plans.
Ya, I can understand the oxidation bit. Was thinking of powder coating it afterward with ultra clear (high gloss). I think it would only be applicable on parts that remain under 300 Deg F or paint will get soft....
Anyway, was looking to see if someone had pics before I put some coin into actually doing it.
you could just save yourself the time and $$ and do this...
translucent copper powdercoated over polished aluminum
did all the covers on a sportster motored stretched chopper that was just shown @ the dulles expo center this weekend turned out killer!
just polished and polished... and then some polishing to round things out...
otherwise the coating tends to look a bit like someone poured maple syrup over your parts..
cool thing is.. there are some copper plated parts on the bike as well.... and you cant tell which is live and which is memorex!
thanks man.. i'll post pics of the finished bike as soon as i can get back up to their shop and take some...[the shop@north point/darby customs-baltimore, md.]
when i got those parts they were black/grey from corrosion...i polished that stuff for hours and hours and hours..[you get the picture..] and the powder wasnt easy either... ended up stripping/shooting several times to get the correct effect... too light looked fake.. too dark looked fake etc.all in all i probably lost $$..considering all the labor involved...but because of it im their "powdercoat-guy"
and have atleast 3 other jobs scheduled through them...and theyre repping my stuff :[hawking my cards, showing samples, etc.] if i can manage to get a few more shops like these guys in my"pocket" so-to-speak...i'd be able to turn this gig full time... and that would be killer![sm=icon_rock.gif]
