Well tried to install the mufflers this weekend, lower pipe went on no sweat. The bungs on the upper pipe do not match the holes in the bracket just perfectly therefore when I install the rear bolt I cant get the front bolt in and vice versa. IT IS VERY CLOSE but off just enough to prevent the bolt from starting. Im thinking of drilling out the hole in the bracket to gain a little play. Anybody else ever have this problem?
That's odd. Did you try hand fitting both screws before tightening them. There is a bit of play in the openings. I had to do that with mine. Other than that there was no problem.
yeah I tried starting both. the bike is a 07 deluxe and the rear bracket is at such an angle ,you cant see what your doing. but I can get either started as long as the other is removed.
I put Rush slants on my wifes 07 flstc, and it was an easy bolt up, on the second set. The first set were boxed wrong, and had the right pn on the box, but the wrong mufflers. Don
Don't do anything rash before making sure you've tried all other options. I'm pretty sure GAGIRL has a deluxe and she didn't mention any issues with installing hers. Did you compare the screw holes on the stock pipes with those on the new ones to see if they're the same distance apart. Maybe it's a factory defect.
I just installed the Rush mufflers on my Fatboy today and am having the same problem with the bottom muffler. The top went on easy. Three of the bolts on the bottom went right in except the one closest to the rear of the bike. I tried for an hour to get it lined up and it will not go. It's hard to get any kind of grip on it because there's no room to get your hand in there. My uncle isa little guy so he's gonna see if he can get his hand in there and get it started. I'm surethe mufflerwon't go anywhere with three of the bolts tight, but I want it the way it should be before I ride it.
By the way, the 2 inchers sound awesome! So much better than stock![8D]
Get the hardest one to start started a few threads and twist the muffler very slightly back and forth until you feel right alignment as you start the second bolt. I've installed a couple of sets, and it seems as though it's alignment of the bolt in the threaded boss that is the problem. Make sure that you haven't bunged up the starter thread on the bolt(s). If they are even slightly messed, get some new stainless bolts and run a blind tap in the boss to clean it up.
