I was an auto mechanic for years, so i'm pretty good with a wrench. But not working on bikes, my question is: Are there any special tools or any complications replacing a primary cover, cam cover or trans side cover on a FXST? Gaskets go on dry? Thanks in advance.
Tranny cover ain't much worse, but there are some parts involved. They won't fall out, though. Dry gasket.
Cam cover gets more complicated. The ignition cover is riveted on with blind rivets. Gotta drill them out, then pull the ignition components. Ain't had mine apart since my Shovel and it had points, so consult your manual. You do have a manual, right? Trock makes a puller for the cam cover that allows you to pull it with the cover with the cams still loaded with the push rods & lifters. All this is for an Evo. If you have a Twin Cam, none of this cam cover crap applies.
