i got an 06 night train that i bought with 1200 miles on it. it has the screamin eagle stage II kit on it wich includes flat top pistons, big bore cylinders, pushrods, se-203 cam, and the 6200 rpm ignition kit. it also came with this tachometer mounted on the handlebar.
well, i'm not sure if i like the tach or not and i am thinking about removing it. i like the drag bar look, and i'm not sure if the tachometer takes away from that look or not, or if it looks just fine, or if i should just keep it because i have all the other performance parts to go with it.
take a look and take the poll. what would you do?
oh, and i'm not spending 500 bones on a speed/tach combo.
kay,
I'm not a big fan of tachs on the bars like that, but it looks ok if you like it.
I have enough people come up to me and ask is that a 1200 or is that a sportster? Duh!
That would just add to that because they come out with speedo's like that.
But your bike looks fine with it. It's all about what you like, and making it your own.
When I did my bar conversion, I wanted it clear, but the bars/riser/riser cover set I chose came with an exposed hole to run the tach wires into the risers, so I just couldn't leave a gaping hole in there. So, ended up installinga tachanyway.
I sure am glad I did.
I like to ride a little fast, and I would have never guessed where redline was.
I'm kicking around a tach for my NT... I've been tninking about the one you have, but after looking at it, I don't really like it. I have taller risers on the drag bars, and I thinkif Icould mount the tach under the bars, it would look better.
Thanks for the pics, this really helps me decide.
I say leave it alone, but if its the "look" that bugs you, why not look into a different housing and mounting bracket?
There's tons of different setups avalable in the catalogs, look around.
Youmight be able to find one thatsuits "your taste" a bit better than the one you have.
Well...I just put one ON my 07 custom, if that tells you anything. I really missed having one and just guessing at what RPM. Man, was I wrong about where I was running!!Also, looking at the speedometer means your eyes aren't on the road, not a good thing...after a short time, I'll be able to know my speed by looking at the tech and not the speedometer...big plus. And besides, isn't that tech chrome??? You may be looking at this ALL WRONG, consider it a chrome handlebar enhancing accessory that ALSO functions as a device that lets you know your RPM.
