Looking to but a MIG welder for my home shop. Looking at either a Lincoln Pro Mig 170 or a Hobart Mig 140 Handler. Can any one give ma advice on which way to go? Has to be able to run off a 120 V. Thanks............
I have a wirefed lincoln 140, I think. anyway I do know if i run out of wire or need a tip I can just run to homedepot or lowes and get it, even on sunday.
I have a cheap 120 mig welder and love it what ever you get get one that pulls the wire rather than shoves it also one that can take gas back up so you can do alum. pull as apposed to push is for alum also.. alum wire doesn't like to be pushed..

Iâm partial to the Lincoln but you really canât go wrong with either one.
I've a Miller 140, runs off of 120v, can use rosincore wire or solid wire and gas. Can weld .25" to .375"steel if you bevel the edges and make 2 to 3 passes. Call around to some pawn shops, you could find a steal, I mean a good deal.
i have the hobart... its junk and collects dust.. ok if u wanna constantly pull the wire out and feed it in because it kinks and wont feed... save your $$ and buy something else.. just my .02
You buy any of the names mentioned they are all good welders i would buy lincoln or miller if i was buying.
No matter what you buy make sure it can be hooked up to gas and get you a small tank your welding will be alot better and youll like your machine alot better.
I have had the Hobart Handler 140 for two years and will do anything you'd want to do on your own. It will accept gas or use of flux core wire. Hobart is made by Miller just differnt color just half the price. If you know how to use a welder you will not have any problems with it kinking up you. If you need something a little hotter Hobart came out with a Handler 165. Much Luck
