Just purchased a 1998 Hertiage Soft Tail and I was wondering how many miles I could go before I have to turn the reserve on. And how many will I get from the reserve.

Typical for my '97 Softail is about 120-140 miles before I hit reserve which means burning 3 1/2 gallons of fuel from a complete fill-up. Reserve is 1/2 Gallon and will get me 34-40 miles. I rarely hit reserve but when I do I tank up at the next opportunity.
Remember to reset the petcock when you fill up. Nasty suprise to think you are on the main tank and find out that you are reallyon reserve and are bone dry.
I gotta hit my reserve somewhere in the 140-150 range. I got 200 miles a few times on my Fatboy, but it is rare. Seems to me that speed is the main factor on MPG. If I run 75 or 80 it really sucks the fuel then. Keep it at 55 or 60 and it does pretty good.
