Default lowering an 04 fxst

am considering lowering my bike 2" in the rear. wondering what effect it will have on the lean angle and overall handeling?

I lowered my '05 after a couple hundred miles, and never felt any difference in the handling. I never scraped anything in 5000 miles of riding.

I lowered my fxst 1 3/4" in the rear it handled a little different but most noticable is the rougher ride, it is ok for solo but my passenger complains a little, I still have stock shocks on it I would have to think that aftermarket shocks would make the ride smoother. I did scrape the exhaust a couple of times but then learned how far to lean before it scrapes.

Comfort is compromised two up but handling seemed much better on my Fatboy for what its worth.

Got mine lowered 1 1/2 inch using Progressive lowering kit on the stock shocks. Have had it for 20000 miles and love it. My wife rides on back all the time and doesn't complain. I have 3 ruptured disk and no problems. The only thing I have to watch is draging bottom of pipes on hard right curves.

You will need a motorcycle jack, some hand tools, and a hydraulic press to take apart the shocks.

Compress the shock in the press, take out the snap ring, and then release the pressure from the spring. Take off the stock mounting bolt, and replace with the new pieces. reinstall the same way they came apart.

If you don't have a press you can use a floor jack and a trailer hitch or bumper of a truck. Put shock between jack and any solid object above it to compress shock but BE CAREFULL. The shock is under a tremendous amount of pressure!! I used the frount end loader on me tractor to compress mine!

Cheers Jeff & JLOCKHART[sm=icon_cheers.gif], Mike probably would thank you as well, I will take the shocks to a local garage that has a press to dismantle, knowing my luck if I tried to do it any other way I'd ping the whole show into the roof![sm=bangbang.gif] I'll post once the deed is done.
