Default Headlamp Visor Installation

I'm sure this is not a new subject, but I'm having trouble getting the chrome/eagle headlamp visor on my 2007 Heritage Softail Classic w/o leaving a 1/4" gap at the bottom. The stealer told me I didn't need a special trim ring for the visor. is this true? Any ideas out there? The closest thing I could find was in the Touring forum at https://www.hdforums.com/m_1725166/tm.htm, but I know the touring bikes require a new trim ring (or at least the dealer mentioned that it did). Please HELP!

Thanks! [&:]

I installed one on my Standard and with everything I did, I still have a 1/8" gap at the bottom, so your not alone.
I at first thought I was doing something wrong during installation but it was the right trim ring thats just the way it is... a shame really because it should fit better then that.

yeah, mine is probably closer to 1/8" than 1/4". It really burns me that they have to make it so difficult. I have a friend who is Harley certified that says he has installed these on many bikes and that there is a trick to it. he's going to help me with mine.I have no doubt he can do it; I will let you know how it goes and pass along anything I learn.

Did one last weekend - same gap, but still looks good. I'd also be interested in the 'trick' with installation.

Try using a 'grip-clamp' on the sides of the lamp after installation and GENTLY squeeze the sides together while tightening the screw.
Had the same problem with my 'bagger'. Got it within a hair line.
Good luck.

Hi guys,
I have just had this very same problem on my new Heritage, I fitted all the other visors in minutes but the headlamp! boy what a pain it was, After finally getting the trim ring on I sat on the bike and found that the visor wasnt central, There was no way I could slide the visor round inside the ring so had to take it off again
This is what I found, maybe it will help?
On the top inner edge of the ring there are 2 cutouts, once these are over the lugs you have to twist the ring clockwise to tighten against the lens, once in this position the visor cannot be moved as it is too tight so make sure you line it up good!
Turn the retaining screw in a couple of threads to hold it in place
use the ball of your hand on the lower edge of the ring near the fixing point while pushing down hard on the top edge of the ring with the other hand, now push the lower edge of the ring hard towards the lens and it should click over the lip.
I pushed so hard that I moved the lamp on its mounting. It is ridiculously tight but I dont think I have a gap, I will check tomorrow though just to see
Hope this helps?

I just applied visors to my 09 deluxe. I was having a heck of a time getting the first one on. What worked for me was I had to contour the visor to the lamps prior to installing it under the bezel itself. I was a bit hesitant to do this for fear of the chrome flaking from flexing the metal to fit the lamp prior to the install. It wound up not becoming the case and everything went together much much easier. No gap at all. I bent the visors by hand no special tools were needed.
