Default Is taking the 96 to a 103 worth it?

For the 07 /08 softails, have any of you upgraded to the 103 big bore kit with 255 cams, wondering if its worth it? aside from labor costs, is there much performance difference?

I know there are many guys with upgrade ideas that have been shared on the forum, Just wondering out of the box performance yea, or ney.

Thanks,

Joe

Everything I have read says if you are gonna do it might as well do the 110. Better performance for a few dollars more.

Thanks for the feedback, Ive also read up on the 95 kit for the 88 engine has more torq compared to the 103 kit for the 96 engine. I will looked into the 110 option, not sure if I can handle the $$.

Thanks,

Joe

103 might be worth is if you dont use SE parts. The HD 103 motor is a dog. the 110 is nice but there is still alot of potential with better cams and higher flowing heads.

I would also add that 103 setups vary so much that it is hard to give you a direct acurate answer.

If you put a SE 103 and 255 cams up against a HQ 103 with .575 cams a HVP heads you would get two very different opinions!

I think if you spent the extra 2k or so for a HQ or GMR or Hillside 103 kit with head work you would be very satified at your return on in vestment!

To me if your going to larger bore you might as well go to the 107" inch kit because no case boring is needed and it cost the same as the 103".

if and when ni want more power from my 96
'; after the pipe, module, air cleaner upgrades i already have, i will get the compression bumped up to 10.5:1 and a set of cams to match, have the ecm re-programed with a dyno assist. its less money and way more power... just my opinion.

Not to disagree with everyone here but if done right the 103 can produce more HP and TQ than the SE110. My last dyno with my 103 (with s&s 570 gear drive cams) was 100 hp and 100 TQ. I just added new cams(Andrews 650) and I am now looking at 110hp and 110tq. I guess it depends on how you build your engine and your riding style. Your exhaust, intake, and heads will also need to be addressed. Just don't get caught up into numbers(HP, TQ etc...) make sure that the whole bike compliments how you plan to ride and gives you the most comfort.
That being said, ride free and keep the shiny side up!

Chris
chris is right just go to the harley website and look at the dyno numbers....only if 3/4 hp/tq is worth 2500 to 3000.00 now if you go with GRM/Hillside or something like that then you will have you moneys worth...even with an 88tc if you do a 95 upgrade you can get more hp/tq with GRM/Hillside than a SE 110
