Default Model A tail light question....

I just purchased a repoduction of a model A tail light and I need alittle help wiring it to the bike. It only has 2 wires, one goes to the running bulb at the bottom of the light and one goes to the top brake bulb. Its not a dual filament like I thought it would be. Ive already attempted to wire it. I wired the blue wire to the running bulb and, the yellow & red to the brake bulb. I didnt turn the bike on (cause its so cold in NH) but I switched the ignition to AuX, the running light should come on right?>but it doesnt. It only lights up when I hit the brakes, but the problem is both lights light up. My question is do I need somthing elses or am I doing somthing wrong with the wiring.. Thanks in advanced.

The housing of the light provides the grounds for both bulbs, make sure the housing is grounded, also Model A's were 6 volt, you will need to change the bulbs to 12 volt or they will burn out quick.

Still doesn't work. I painted the frame license plate frame, would this affect the unit from grounding?

The swing arm is probably not grounded, mounted on rubber/nylon,use the ground wire fom the original taillight

I checked my repair manual, looks like you have the wires right. I don't think you have a grounding problem because it works when you apply the brake. The only problem your having is with the running light. Do you have a test light? Turn the ignition switch on and test the wire after your connection on the running light wire, then check the light socket. If you have power to all that, replace the bulb. You may have to start the bike for the light to work, don't ask me why because I don't know. But I have a pair of silver bullet turn signals on the front of my bike and they WILL NOT light up until the bike is running. Gquist is right about the 6 volts deal, you won't keep bulbs in it for long, but being a repop it should be 12 volt. The only other thing I can think of is the fixture isbad.
