I'm trying to install the same taillight on a 93 wide glide and having a similar problem. Only on mine both the running light bulb and the brake light bulb come on when I connect the wires, but not just the running light. I've tried all the combinations, and that's the only reaction I can get outta the thing. Needless to say, nothing happens when I press/squeeze the brakes.
The three wires into two is throwin' me. I have the black, green, and red coming from the bike, and a green and a black on the taillight. If I connect the green and black wires from my bike to the green and black wires on the light(doesn't matter if it's green to green or black to green), both bulbs come on. Which leaves me with a red wire that's hanging alone. Any ideas?
Finskies, did you get yours working, and if so, what was the solution?
Thanks for the help, I'm tearin' my hair out here.
I installed a similair light on my 07 Train. I ran into the same problem. I'm pretty sure it was a grounding isssue. The OEM tailight and turn signals were grounded together coming from the wiring harness in the taillight assembly. I'm not sure if that helps but it's some place else to check.
yea it was a ground issue, I ran the running light, brake light, and ground to the new taillight. I just attached the ground to the back of the tail light to ground it. You will figure it out and check your fuses.
Ahhhh...that makes sense. I guess only having two hands to try and connect three wires at a time was givin' me grief. Thanks for the help, I'm gonna run right out to the garage and see what I can come up with.
P.S. and thanks for the fuse/bulb heads-up.
