I have an '87 Softail with a brake light problem. The tail light is a Hi-Tech LED Prism that was installed about 9 years ago. I just replaced the LED strip for the tail light because half the bulbs were not lighting up anymore. After replacing the strip, I turned the ignition switch on and my brake light lights up...its not supposed to do this. If I apply either the foot or hand brake the light slightly flickers but stays on.
The ignition switch has one turn clockwise to start the bike and the two turns clockwise to turn on head lamp and tail light. Turning on all lights has the tail light on as if the brake switch is on.
I cant figure out why the brake light is always on. Please help...Thanks!
Sounds like your wires are crossed. I've seen the same thing on incandescent bulb setups when the taillight power wire is hooked up to the socket ground by accident.
Thanks for the info. There are three wires and one of those is a black ground. I tried switching the other 2 wires prior to installing and the tail light wouldnt work at all.
