Default Tail light not functioning as brake light 04 fxdli

As the title says my tail light works, but it’s not functioning as a brake light also. Anybody know why this is? Just changed it to an led, but before we switched to led it also didn’t work with brakes just worked as a running light.

honesty I have no idea, my father (who gifted me the bike for my birthday this year and it’s my first one) said he doesn’t think it’s ever worked, just never noticed until he rode with me.

I would check the plug for the taillight on the wiring harness to make sure there is no corrosion in the connection.

Have you looked at the brake light switch?

Check the brake light switch on the rear master cylinder and the wire harness under the rear fender. My bet is the wire harness is ripped up.

Get out your DVOM and find out. Start at your front brake lever switch.
