you are correct im tyring to reduce a picture to 500mg in jpeg but I am having a bit of trouble

 

Just a suggestion; whatever pic you're trying to downsize, save it to your desktop (or another convenient place). Then go to the photo, right click on it, and then hit "Properties". It'll show you the size of the photo. This way you can make sure it is of appropriate size, before you try to upload it. Hopefully this will save you a bit of frustration. I know from personal experience this can be a bit of a PITA. Good luck with it.
