I have a pair from here called the Defender.
Don't know if they will REALLY work, but they are comfortable, and give the twins a chance to breath...

Armor can make somewhat of a difference. Why the sport bike guys all wear it. Kevlar is great for abrasion protection, but doesn't do a lot for impact.
