I'm 99% sure i'm fixing to buy an 05 Night train. I have been looking at replacing the taillight and searching for discussions on here. I have seen a couple of the aftermarket options, including the CVO tail out of the 07-up. I was wondering if anyone with the 05-earlier bike has looked into fitting one of these into the fender. My objective is to determine what part of the taillight won't work. Is it the width, mounting bracket, etc.
Also, would it be possible to get a few postings of tails that other softail owners have installed on their bikes and what else may be available in the aftermarket?
I havethe HD Tri-Bar tailight (stock tailight on '07 CVO Springer)on my '06 FXST and they're made to fit the 200 tire softails with the wider fender...no chance of modifying it to fit the narrower pre-'06 fender...none.
Well DAMN... that sucks. Oh well. I guess i'll have to get some board and LEDs and make my own TL. Guess i'll have to look for some sort of lens and base. Thanks for the help fellas.
After (IF) I get my bike, I'll keep the update on what i get goin.
Don't get too discouraged, check over in the Dyna section and look for a thread marked How too for 50 bux by Mudpuddle. In there he has some pics and a little write up on making a LED tail light with built in turn signals for the Bobtail fender on his "Mudsickle".
First thing to do is check his first posting and there is an index to help you find different things in it, the thread isaround 15 pages now. If you can't find it, PM him and ask where he has it posted.
got a kury low profile led coversion on my 05 train... $95.00 in smoke
not quite as cool as the tri bar but i like it cause it doesn't stick out like the stock one
and from the side you can't see it, it's also very bright.
