How difficult, time consuming, etc is the install on a softail. My buddy installed his on a RK and it took less than1 hour, however, reading the softail directions, it seems a little more involved (i.e. removing mudguard, etc). My mother-in-law got it for me for christmas, so I would like to get it installed.
I put one on my softail and I love it. The mud guard was easy to remove, although it helped to have a motorcycle jack... Made it easier to get the guard off. You will also need to remove the seat.
I installed one in my 02 fat boy last winter. It wasn't that bad. The inner fender is just two bolts at the bottom and it hooks on at the top. if the bike is on a jack you can remove it. If the bike is on the ground the shield will hit the floor before it clears the swing arm. You should be able to work around it.
Not hard at all i did two last summer and will have it on all my bikes from here on out. You only remove the mud guard to make it easier to zip tie the transmitter, i did not do this on the first one i did but on the second and yes it is easier. Do it yourself and learn a little about the bike while you do it. Just follow the instructions and its a breeze.
I have been reading the instructions for install and would like to know, where will the splicing take place? The instructions say to route the wires under the tank, butare the orange, yellow and white wires actually spliced under the tank, or is it more under the seat and battery area?
