Default Ignition switch position???

I just bought an 89 heritage softail and was wondering if there is a specific position for the ignition switch after I start it so the battery will charge??

It went dead last night when I came out of a restaraunt and I was wondering if on my ride (80miles at night) I didn't have the switch in the correct position to allow it to charge???

Thank you and I appreciate this forum!!!

Default RE: Ignition switch position???

The switch position has nothing to do with the battery charging. As long as the bike is running it will charge. What matters is the position you leave the switch in when it's not running. The rotary switch on the dash should be in the OFF (middle/straight up and down) position. If you turn it too far to the left it will be in the accessory position and will draw your battery. If your battery continues to lose its charge, you may have a bad battery or a faulty charging system.
