All the HDs I have owned with the switch on the dash i had a problem with forgetting to turn off the damn switch. I killed a bout three batts in the past. I am having the same issue with my 08 RK. It seems I keep forgetting to turn the switch off. Most of the time I catch it when it's been on for a few or someone tells me. Couple of times it was left on for 20 min but the battery still had enough juice to start the bike. Yesterday It was left on for about 2.5hrs. I did not even try to start it as I was already at home. I just put it on the battery tender and left it and that was about 7pm. I get up at about 530am this morning and check it and the charging light is still red. But it seemed to start up ok. I hope I did kill this battery. I am pretty detailed when it comes to my bike but for some reason I become dumb when it comes to the switch.
I assume you shut the bike down with the kill switch. I never use the kill switch, always the main ignition switch.
Yeah, that.
IDK Man, you'd think that after having to buy a new battery, you'd remember. Let alone having to buy 3 of them. You need to break that habit and start turning off the ignition - don't even think about the "kill" switch anymore. Good luck!
