Compared to the ape hangers I had, I found the stock handlebars on my '10 Heritage more comfortable. The Heritage bars seem about as high as 12-13" ape hangers. The width falls about halfway between softail and narrowglide apes (wider than Street Bob, not as wide as typical softail apes).

But what makes the Heritage bars seem more comfortable is a combination of slightly more pull back and a more natural slope to the wrist area. If you hold your arms out in front of you at a comfortable position and look at your wrists, they will slope down at about 35degrees. That's about the same as the Heritage bars.

I've ridden 6 hours without any neck or shoulder discomfort on my Heritage. Great stock seat and suspension too!

Stock was ok. Ended up installing a set of deluxe pull back risers and now I find them great.

Default Great seat

I agree with Joe, the seat is tops! I have sat on the Fatboy before but I sit in the Heritage seat.
I do want a set of 14" z-bars for the old scoot that will make a more streamlined look in my opinion.

The first thing I did before I even drove home from the dealer was to loosen the four bolts and moved them back about two inches. They are perfect now.

Hey Pete the brand is Sportech and the price was $600.00 plus the $50.00 for mounting kit for Heritage. The windshield is rather small (3") which causes ( on my set up) a very deafening buffeting sound ...needs 4" more to stop it. I am looking at several different size and shaped windshields to replace the original. I am very pleased with the quality of this fairing. It is vivid black, but my phone is not the best and makes the color look funny. I would have purchased a Reckless fairing if I had the extra $100 to spend as for that price you get the stereo and speakers installed with unit.

I think the Heritage just the way they come are the most comfortable bikes I have ever been on.

This thread was started in 2004. Heritage bars are still popular - softails and baggers.

When I finally started riding my recently acquired '08 FLSTC with the stock handlebars, I started having left wrist and right arm pains. I never had this problem before with my other bikes in the past.

So I concluded the handlebar grip position and angle was the cause. I went to the local dealer looking for a handlebar solution; asked them about other handlebars and the parts guy told me the '08 handlebars are different than the '09-11 bars. The newer bars have a different angle for the grip ends. The newer bars have a more ape hanger style. He had a '09 handlebar in stock to show me.

Thought it might be more comfortable after examination so I gambled; I bought it, installed it myself and after riding several hundred miles, the pain seems to have subsided. I feel more comfortable with the newer bars. Not a bad self-diagnosis and solution.
