Would like to know if those who follow the Harley dealers service recommendations do the same for there cage? I'll bet that most don't. Get a service manual, some toolsand start by changing your fluids. Nothing will make your chest swell like being able to say, "I Did That".
At those prices, sounds like it's the customer who needs the lube, not the bike...
ORIGINAL: Scurvy Jack
If you check the HD shop prices, $460+ is standard for all services and you shouldn't be charged extra for checking the springer. And at 500 miles if your springer does need tightening then it wasn't tightened before you bought like it should have been.
I have my mechanic check the springer every 10,000 miles...he actually takes the entire thing apart checks everything then puts it back together...charges me one extra hour @$70. That way I know it's together and done right. I've had the bike going on five years and it has over 60,000 miles and no problems with the frontend.
500 mile sevice on my 08 was $247.00 and that's replacing all the oils from standard tosynthetic. Yea it's expensive but I wanted them to do at least the first one. I'll do the rest myself now that I know exactly what they do. Over $400 sound way high.
my fat boy service was 1000miles and it was free.
if the 5000 mile service is within the warrenty period I will pay that, but after I might do it my self. My only concern is retail value without a dealer service record
