Hey voyager1...I removed the 'heel' part of the 'heel/toe' shifter onthe second day I owned my Fat Boy! I don't like the way it works or looks...just a pet peeve of mine! HD even has a little chrome cover that covers the end of the shaft after you remove the rear shifter bar. The whole job took about 15 minutes andlooks much better!
My heel-shifter was one of the first things to come off the bike. HD sells a nice chrome cap that goes over the exposed spline once you pull the rear shifter off.
I took that opprotunity to rotate the front-shifter up a couple of "teeth" so my riding boot(s) fit comfortably underneath the control.
This is MUCH more "old-school" now and is what I'm use to, and gives me more room to slide my foot around on the floorboard without bumping into the heel.
Thanks for all the replies. I used to have a street bob and I forgot about the vibration which was an issue. I am leaning towards a Fat Boy cos in the end I'd probably spend all the money trying to make a dyna something else...
By the way, I also wanted to know what's the decel like on a 08 Fatboy FI model?
I just threw a suzi gsx1400 back at the dealer cos it chugged in any gear at 2000 rpm cos of problems with the butterfly valves. I am guessing the HD's are fine cos they are cruisers anyways and should accept this.
Personally the FB but I suggest at the next HD open house take them both for a ride. I like the heel shifter but I wear a size nine shoe and have no problems. Once you get used to it it's really nice.
My experience was that I was riding a dyna, which was set up for me....rented a Fatboy on a trip and knew I wanted a softail....
In my case I bought a Deuce. Seating is better IMO on softails...ride/handling is debatable.
Someone above suggested renting both and that is smart money and fun for a coupla days. John
Hi, I have the choice of buying a 2008 fat boy or dyna super glide. i do a lot of city riding and don't mind either and since they have the same sized motor i am just wondering if anyone had any thoughts?
you realize, if you posted this in the Dyna section, you'd getcompletely different answers.....
