Default New Speedometer / with tach??

I have been looking at the Harley catalog and they have some cool speedometers, the one I like is a speedometer almost like the one on my X Bones but it has a Tach also. It states that is a plug in. Im just wondering how you hook the tach up, im sure its not just a plug in if my bike does not have a tach now.
How is it hooking up a tach like this?

Hey whylee...

It should just be a 'plug and play' setup like my 2007 Fat Boy. Just remove the console nut and turn the console over and remove the old speedometer and replace it with the new speedo/tach unit. The wiring for my tach was already there. Real simple...just make sure that you put a towel or something over your tank to prevent mishaps! You'll only get a few extra inches of cable to move around with but itis plenty to swapout speedo units.

Good luck...

You don't need a special line for the tach. The speedo hook up cable has a built in serialdata line that it uses for other functions like the check engine, oil pressure, and security light. Thetachuses the same data link for its info.

Mike NY...

That is correct...the odometer readout stays on all the time on the replacement units. Don't know why they were designed that way, but theydo.

i'm also curious about this unit...

i'm assuming you can still toggle between the different functions? trip meter, clock... etc?

For what ever reason you lose the clock, the total mileage is always shown but you still have a/b settings. I set one for tank mileage and the other for service intervals.

jeeplite is correct trafficjams...

I only have Odometer, 'A' Trip and 'B' Trip...I swapped out at 25 miles and don't remember if I had a clock or not!

I purchased the Speedo/Tach unit from Zanotti and they set my mileage to match my OEM Speedo.

Steve,

I'm kinda curious about one of these as well. How much was it from Zanotti's?
